The Great Gatsby

During the first three chapters, three different parties had happened and were described by nick. The first party at Daisy’s, the second at Myrtles, and lastly the party at Gatsby's.

To start off, Daisy’s party seemed more like a dinner than a party in my opinion. The people that had attended were Daisy herself, Tom, Nick, and Miss Baker. The setting of this party was at Daisy's house in East egg. The house is a mansion which symbolize's their wealth. As the party starts Daisy and Tom get into a fight. Later on Tom begins to make white supremacy and racial commentary. He states  on page 13 “The idea is if we don’t look out the white race will be— will be utterly submerged.” This party was formal and scandalous. To continue, After Tom and Daisy's argument it came to light that Tom was cheating on her. On page 15 it quotes “Toms got some women in New York.” Once this had happened and on top of Tom being racist the entire party had gotten ruined. Daisy’s party seemed to overall be my least favorite out of the three.

Moving on into chapter 2, Tom takes Nick and Myrtle to New York. The setting of Myrtles party was in an apartment that was on the top floor, but it was small. It wasn’t a big mansion like Tom and Daisy’s house. Myrtle's sister was there, Catherine who has red hair and seems to wear a lot of makeup. Mr. McKee and his wife who both seem a little unpleasant as a couple. Nick claims that this is his second time ever getting drunk. This party is basically everyone drinking heavily which escalates to further problems. As Myrtle drinks more and more she gets louder and more obnoxious. She then brings up Daisy and Tom gets furious. On page 37 it states “Daisy! Daisy! Daisy! shouted Mrs Wilson. I’ll say it whenever I want to! Daisy Dai—-“ This results in Tom punching her and breaking her nose. This was what caused the party to go to a halt and end shortly after. Nick ends up leaving drunk and takes the train back to Long Island. This party wasn’t my favorite but not as awful as the first one. I would not go to this party.

The last party in chapter three was Gatsby’s party. This party seemed most interesting to me and the best overall. Nick and Jordan Baker were together the whole time. The setting of this party was at Gatsby's house. He throws these parties every weekend at his beautiful mansion. His parties are always luxurious, people admire his Rolls Royce, pools, his beach, the expensive food provided. As well as the liquor. Alike Myrtles' party everyone gets drunk at Gatsby's parties. What goes on during this party is that people speculate about Gatsby and become curious about who he really is, where his money comes from, and his personal history. Jordan Baker's friend Lucille thinks that Gatsby is a German spy. She replies with this when this was said on  page 44 “somebody told me they thought he killed a man once.” Setting aside all of this, Nick proceeds to say that Gatsby is actually a graduate from Oxford. Gatsby comes across as someone who keeps to himself, and he shows that at his parties . He doesn’t drink either, he keeps himself separate from the party completely. At the end of the party is when the real problems begin. As Nick is walking home he witnesses a car accident where a drunk person's car went into a ditch. On page 58 Nick says “You’re a rotten driver.” The person continuously tries to convince and proclaim that they are careful and that the accident wasn’t the drunk driver's fault.

After reading these three chapters and seeing the different setting throughout as well as what had taken place If i had to choose to go to one of the parties, I would choose Gatsby. His party seemed to be the least problematic and least drama filled. Yes, there was conspiracy going around about him but that didn't involve everyone that was there. Also, his party seemed to be the most fun with all the nice food and the amazing experience with the luxurious house he has. Daisy’s party was just filled with unwanted drama and it was too problematic for me. Myrtles party turned violent and an abusive environment which doesn't seem all that nice to me. So overall, I chose Gatsby’s party.
